These pictures had become dry and were impossible to unroll. The Archivist took the photographs outside on an extremely humid and hot summer day. In about 30 minutes the photographs had relaxed enough to unroll and were brought back into the Library and pressed under books, using archival photo file folders as blotters between pictures.
