THE SILVER BOOK - A pageant presenting the shadow of Dr. Otho Winger, who
concluded his twenty-fifth year as M. C’s president last spring (1936). [Aurora
1937 pg. 128]. Over two-hundred people
took part in the twenty-five eposodes which had been so well arranged and
carefully staged under the direction of Prof. Sadie Wampler. The cooperation of both play production and
pageantry classes made possible the writing of the book. Finally, came the unveiling of the portrait
painted by Paul Trebilcock, which was the gift of the alumni. This climaxed the
evening’s portrayal of a long and successful term of service. Preserved in the memories of those who came
that night in honor of the president, Manchester College’s Silver Book remains
permanently a single edition.
Thursday morning marked the appreciation program in which
representatives from college s of Indiana and neighboring states paid their
personal and official tribute to President Winger. William Lowe Bryan, president of Indiana
University, Winger’s Alma Mater, paid lasting respects to his educational
career.
