Scope and Content

One reel-to-reel audio tape and accompanying CD. Reel-to-reel tape discarded by Jeanine Wine 12 October 2016 because the best possible digital copy had been made.  This copy was uploaded to the Archives' network location by MU Department of Instructional Technologies October 2016.

Bio History Note

Author and newspaper columnist, Sidney Harris speaks during convocation.  He previously spoke at Manchester College in 1965.  He started his career as a reporter for Chicago Herald and Examiner. In 1941, Mr. Harris began work at the Chicago Daily News,  In 1944, he began his personal column.  He is the author of boooks, two of which are "For the Time Being," and The Authentic Person."  The talk was given prior to December 1986.

From Wikipedia:  Harris was born in London, England on 14 September 1917 and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He became a member of the editorial staff of the Chicago Daily News in 1941 and began his column in 1944.  He died 8 December 1986.
