The book appears to be similar to MC2011/94a,b in content, but this is an elaborate edition. The subject is the funeral/burial procession of General Sun Yat-sen, sometimes referred to as the "father of modern China." This is thought to be an original first copy. | Date of Accession | 11 March 2011 | Bio History Note | The Archivist believes this ornately covered book was given to President Otho Winger as a personal gift. The inscription eliminates Hung Nien Cheng's position of President of the Chi-nan University, which is included in a more informal paper bound version that was presented to Manchester College (see MC2011/94a,b). . At least two of Hung Nien Cheng's children attended Manchester College. Dorothy Cheng graduated in 1930. Her sister, Mary Cheng, also studied at Manchester for a time, but died shortly after returning to China. Otho Winger officiated at the wedding of Hung Nien Cheng's son, Howard Cheng, to Ella Ling (another Manchester alumna). | Archivist Note | Description prepared 11 March 2011 by Jeanine M. Wine. |
