College and Academy - permanent student records from 1889-1920. Academy and College records also located in Large Box 125. According to a letter from the registrar located with the record of Wilma Burkett (filing cabinet), records from early years at Manchester College can be rather incomplete. It appears to J. Wine that books in Large Box 125 contain student records in alphabetical order and range from 1899 through 1908. When comparing these books with records kept in the filing cabinets, the filing cabinet records contain more subjects and years and are more complete. It also appears as if books (Box 125) sometimes describe the "Course" of study, such as "Teachers," "Commercial," and may be the record for Preparatory School or for Manchester College. Separate books each are maintained for Music and for "Commercial" 1899-1900, and for "School of Music" (1899-1900 and then the second book continues with 1907 and 1908). Sometimes names are crossed out - and archivist is assuming this was done as new records were copied following 1908, since 1908 is the highest year that these books seem to record. Record Book including student names and courses 1907, 1908. Noted November 4, 1907 that Sadie Stutsman took 1 piano and 1 voice every other week from Howe (This "music instructor" Howe lived in North Manchester and was the son of North Manchester College's first president, David Howe, who had already moved to Ohio by this time). Also note that the music instructor had a successful fishing lure business (also in North Manchester).
