Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke on Manchester College's campus on February 1, 1968 (he was originally scheduled to speak on May 11, 1967, but the visit was postponed).  His visit to Manchester was the last appearance he made in Indiana.  He was assassinated shortly afterwards, on April 4, 1968.  A memorial service for Dr. King was held on Manchester's campus on April 11, 1968.
