E. Mayer, is played. The title of the speech is Communist Management of Korean War Prisoners. Mayer discusses the process of brainwashing. In this war, the Chinese took 7000 American prisoners. 3000 did not return to the U.S. and 4000 returned to the U.S. at the close of the war. The second recording is similar to MC2011/37 and probably done by students for a class in oral interpretation. 1. Reel-to-reel audio tape with two very different recordings. 2. Two corresponding CDs, #1 and #2. 3. Newspaper article from the Chicago Sun Times, Sunday, 15 April 1962 describing Col. Mayer's premise. William E. Mayer's controversial premise, "on the basis of his Korean findings, we must conclude that the U.S. military character is fatally weak, the moral being that either we must reform or we are lost." | | Archivist Note | Reel-to-reel audio tape transferred to CD by Instructional Technologies Department in December 2010 or January 2011 and discarded October 2016 by Jeanine Wine after Wave Sound file had been copied to the Network, because the reel-to-reel tape was in a state of deterioration.
