Scope and Content

Secretary Book for Aged Persons home (and orphanage), Church of the Brethren of the Southern District of Indiana. Secretary's records from the creation of the Articles of Association in 1918 to its merger with the Mexico Welfare Home in 1951

 

The book of minutes includes:

  • "Articles of Association of the Aged Persons' Home of the Church of the Brethren of the Southern District of Indiana, witnessed and sealed by the Notary Public on 17 April 1918.
    • The location: Jefferson Township, Henry County, State of Indiana.
          • Middletown R. 2.
          • 148 acres.
  • List of trustees.
  • Duties to be performed by trustees.
  • Livestock on the farm.
  • Buildings.
  • Section 5, Page 11, "...to receive needy and homeless children and to look after them as necessity may require."
  • Page 13, October 6, 1920, "...The names of three children, age 12 - 7 and 5 years were presented for the care of the home, but on the account of not having the building ready for children it was decided for Bro. Rarick to look after getting them in a Brethren Home."
  • Proposed merger with Mexico Welfare Home,  2 April 1951:
    • "Business in hand consisted in the formulating of a plan to be submitted to the Mexico Welfare Home Board, later to be submitted and recommended to the districts of indiana whereby the Southren District of indiana might become joint owner and benifactor of the Mexico Welfare Home...." [spelled and capitalized as is].
  • 23 August 1951, Merger decided :
    • At the close of District meeting The aged persons home board met for reorganization....In view of teh decision of the Southern District to merge wtih the other two Districts and in knowlege of a meeting set for August 28th by the Mexico Welfare Home board and upon the invit - extended by them that we meet with them on that date for the organization of the new board which will hencefourth include our board: our board will meet upon the said date at the mexico Home at 9 oclock A.M. together with those representing the two other districts.[spelled and capitalized as is].

  • Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting at the Mexico Welfare Home Held 25 September 1951.
