Bio History Note | The Kosciuszko medal was given to L. W. Shultz by the mayor of Warsaw, Poland for L. W.'s service in 1945 and 1946 in providing post-war relief to the Polish people. The medal displays the image of Tadeusz Kosciuszko on one side and the verso bears the inscription "bicentenary of birth" along with a quote about General Kosciuszko from Thomas Jefferson: "He was as pure a Son of Liberty as I have ever known and of that liberty which is to go to all and not to the few or to the rich alone." |
