Bio History Note

From "A Statement..."

"Resulting from the tensions growing out of the expanded United States involvement in Indochina and the violence on campuses across the country, Manchester College Students through the Community Council recommended to the faculty that College activities be terminated indefinitely, credit for the term's work be given, a campus-wide symposium on Southeast Asia be developed for the week of May 11, and the Community Council send a delegation of three faculty and three students to Washington to convey the concerns of this community to our lawmakers."

Oral Tradition -

Here's what I was told about the history of discussion days my first year. According to Melissa Bowman, the discussion days started back when the Trustees decided not to make a statement in regards to War in Vietnam, and this was a way for Manchester students to discuss what was going on.  Submitted by Kelley Brenneman, student archivist, January 2014.
