Scope and Content

1-2    BW photograph of large group of male students in front of Old Sandstone after it was heavily damaged by fire.  Front is labeled, "Homeless.  Old Sandstone Burned.  You'll help the Building Fund.  Need $50000.  Send to Student Association, Mount Morris College, Mount Morris, Ill."  

1    Back indicates it was sent from Mount Morris in 1912 to Rev. O.D. Buck in Franklin Grove, Ill.  The note reads, "Very many thanks for your contribution to M. of O.S.  I hope you may like the book.  The school sends their best of her gr[?].  D.D. Culler."

2    Back indicates it was sent from Mount Morris on 8 March 1912 to Mr. S.J. John in Naperville, Ill.  The note reads, "Thanks for the contrib. & picture.  I hope you may like the book.  We want it out by commencement time...Come out commencement time.  We are going to have a big reunion of old students.  Arrange to come.  D.D. Culler."

3-4    BW photograph of Old Sandstone while engulfed in flames.  Students and others standing in front with personal articles that were saved from the fire.  Front is labeled, "Burning of 'Old Sandstone'-Mt. Morris, Ill., 1-15-12"  

3    Note on back reads, "From Student Association."

4    Note on back reads, "We need $50,000 for rebuilding.  M.M.C."

5    BW photograph of Gentleman's Building.  Front is labeled, "I'm lonely-Just waiting for you, your step on my stairs, your voice in my halls. Come back soon!"  Back is labeled, "Mount Morris College, that's my second home!"  Unused.

6    Tinted drawing of ladies' dormitory.  Labeled on front:  "Ladies [sic] Dormitory, Mt. Morris College, Mount Morris, Ill."  Note on back reads:  "Mr. James Stover."

7    Tinted photograph of ladies' dormitory.  Labeled on front:  "Ladies [sic] Building, Mt. Morris College, Mt. Morris, Ill."  Back indicates it was sent from Mount Morris on 4 December 1912 to Mrs. R. R. Thomas in Chillion, Wisc.  Note reads in part, "Dear Children, I wrote so much last wk will make a card do this wk.  Had a rainy Sun., then snow but it's about all gone now looks stormy this eve tho.  We are a little on the bum [?].  Papa isn't feeling good & I have a cough that anoys [sic] me some...Love to all, Mother"

8    BW photograph of Old Sandstone.  Front is labeled, "'Sandstone'-Science Bldg. Mt. Morris (Ill) College."  Unused.

9    BW photograph showing the remains of the interior of Old Sandstone after the fire.  Labeled on front:  "Ruins Old Sandstone.  Need $50,000 to rebuild.  Every dollar counts.  Send it to Student Association, Mount Morris College, Mount Morris, Ill."  Back is labeled in handwriting, "Ruins of Old Sandstone Fire of 1912."  Unused.

10    BW photograph of Old Sandstone being rebuilt.  Labeled on front:  "Taken July 15, 1913."  Back indicates it was sent from Mount Morris on 13 February 1913 to Mr. S.J. John of Naperville Ill.  Note reads, "Did you see the boys when they were in your town?  How are you anyway?  When are you coming to see us?  Hope you are feeling fine.  We have just got thru a little grip [LaGrippe].  Old M.M.C. send greeting.  D.D.C."  In different handwriting, "Carpenters on roof of rebuilt Sandstone."  and "The remodeled Sandstone following 1912 fire."

11    BW photograph of exterior of ruins of Old Sandstone.  Front labeled, "Do these walls appeal to you?  $50,000 needed for rebuilding.  How many dollars will you give?  Send to Student Association, Mount Morris College, Mount Morris, Ill."  Handwritten note on back, "Ruins of Old Sandstone following fire of Jan. 15, 1912."  Unused.

12    Collage of BW photographs of Old Sandstone before fire, during fire, after fire, and after rebuilding.  Front is labeled, "Old Sandstone, Mt. Morris College."  Back indicates it was sent from Bradford, Ohio to Miss Ada Clair of Willard, Wisc. on 1 August 191?.  Note reads, "Dear Ada:  hardly know where you are now.  Have been so busy.  Have been in Ohio two weeks now.  Are going home this week.  The girls have had a big time.  It is so hot here.  Will write a letter later.  Is Alivia coming back to school?  Anna Long"

13    BW photograph of Old Sandstone.  Front is labeled, "'Old Sandstone' Mt. Morris College."  Back indicates it was sent from Syracuse, Indiana to Mrs. Ida Winger in Chicago, Ill. in Dec. 1913.  Note reads, "Dear Sister:  If nothing happens you'll see us some time Sat.  We expect to leave here sometime Friday.  I have a little sore throat just now.  Hope it's all gone before Fri.  Lovingly, Oliva [?]"

14    BW photograph of group of men and children in front of building and sign that reads, "Campaign $250,000 Endowment, J.C. Royer Memorial Fund."  Back is labeled, "M.M.C. Service Flag, W.W.I about 1918. M. Stover Beery."  Unused.

15    BW photograph of gymnasium.  Front is labeled, "Gymnasium, Mt. Morris, Ill."  Back indicates it was addressed to Miss Lydia Wirt of Lewiston, Minn., but it is not stamped or postmarked.  Note reads, "Dear Sister:  Rec'd your letter & I assure you I was glad to get it.  I got my glasses but they bother me a lot.  Society was good last eve.  The Orchestra played.  Two weeks until exam.  Lecture tickets are two [sic] expensive, guess I can't afford to buy one this year.  As I haven't sent this before will put it in the letter.  Flossie."
