Wine, Jr. was the foster child of Edward Culler and Bertha (Hoover) Culler. Jacobs reports that Edward and Bertha would have adopted him, but wanted Jacob, Jr. to keep his good family name. It is said that the Wine family had more ministers in the German Baptist/Church of the Brethren denomination than any other.
