A copy of the book, " A True Story of Faith, Terror and Heroism, Fever!, The Hunt For A New Killer Virus," by John G. Fuller.  This book was donated to the Archives by Ruby Sheldon, aviator, and member of the Church of the Brethren, a relative of Laura Wine.

President Jo was asked to paint a square of the mural that depicts an "Everyday Star" whose non-work life embraces generosity and service.  She chose John Hamer (MC Class of 1948) who worked with his wife, Esther (MC Class of 1950) as medical missionaries in Nigeria.  Besides being a physician, Dr. Hamer was a scientiest who helped to discover one of the world's deadliest viruses -- Lassa Fever. The file contains a letter from  Dr. John Hamer to President Jo Young Switzer. 

Laura Wine was the head of obstetrics at the Lassa Mission Hospital in Nigeria. She was one of the first to die of what was to be called Lassa fever, an unknown and deadly disease that erupted in Nigeria, Africa in 1969.
