12.   Program - Homecoming Banquet, 1953 – “College Daze.”

13.   Program - Mardi Gras Junior-Senior Reception, 27 April 1956, Honeywell Memorial Center. [note: this is the night that Ed and Martha became engaged].

14.   Double heart program with Martha Showalter’s name and newspaper article, “Colhecon Hold Date Banquet in Winger Hall.” “…guests were seated at tables in the recital hall which were decorated with heart trees and cupids in chef’s hats to carry out the theme “Hearts Delight.”  Elaine Royer’s committee made the decorations.  Theda Dawes, general chairman of the event, served as toastmistress for the evening.  Martha Showalter gave a welcome to all the girls and their dates.  It was promptly answered by a telegram response from Ed Miller. During the evening Audley Bailey, accompanied by Mary Ann Dunbar, sang two selections….Ann Roop gave two readings…Diane Fike led the assembled group in several songs…”

Copy of "The Acorn," 25th year edition, 1953, inscribed by Martha Showalter, and dedicated to Dean Alice Doner, "who so freely gave her time and energy, her faithful service, and her sincere friendliness to Manchester College."

19 November 1953 "Oak Leaves" with an article about Professor A. R. Eikenberry, a graduate of mount Morris College.

1 April 1954 "Oak Leaves" featuring Coach Wolfe being named "Coach of the Year, and candidates for May Day attendants.

18 February 1954 "Oak Leaves" confirming Barbara Peters [Barbara (Peters) McFadden] as Valentine Queen.  Coronation picture also included Don Parker, Carl Holl, Jr., Barbara Smith, Ralph McFadden, Velma Jean Goebel, and Arlen Lockhart.

4 February 1954 "Oak Leaves" featuring freshman coeds competing for 1954 Sweetheart crown (Valentine Queen) and the selection of MC's "Cherry Princess" (one of the candidates being Martha Showalter).

28 February 1986 "Oak Leaves" featuring article about President-elect William Robinson, "New MC President Will Emphasize Educating."

Ed Miller told the story that his father's first cousin, Della Lehman, taught at Manchester College (English 1921-1927).  One year she came to teach with a new hairstyle.  Della had cut her long hair into a "bob." Della had "bobbed" her hair.  Oral tradition has it that Otho Winger, sticking to the Church of the Brethren standard of the day, in which women of the faith NEVER cut their hair, made Professor Lehman buy a wig.

1954 Cherry Princess candidates: Marietta Whitehead, Judy Fuqua, Mary Lou Ferrey, Velma Jean Goebel, Nelda Brandeberry, and Martha Showalter (Martha Miller).

"Home Economics Day," April 1953, included the Spring Dress Review held in the College Chapel on 30 April 1953.  The Home Economics Department was located in the Winger Memorial Arts Building.  The Head of the Department was Miss Irma Dare, and the Assistant Professor of Home Economics was Miss Josephine Yeager.

The 17 May1955 Spring Dress Review was held in Wampler Auditorium where there were models, music and ushers. Martha Showalter Miller taught part-time at Manchester College from 1968-1983.  One of the classes she taught was "Tailoring" (the process of how to make a suit for a man or a woman).

Home Management House photos include: Roberta Winger (advisor) and her daughter (Susan),  Jane Harshbarger, Joyce Wheeler Douglas (who gave crèches to MU), Nelda Brandenberry Snyder, Martha Showalter Miller took picture. The 4 students staying at the Home Management house for one semester received credit for staying there.  They did tasks like developing menus, grocery lists, deciding what to do with the leftovers, did all the cleaning.
