Two of the authors had either attended or were attending Manchester College. Standards include: Simplicity, serviceability, shoe top length, careful cut of dress necks, sensible heeled shoes, unratted hair, avoidance of rouge and excessive use of powder.

Kathryn Forney graduated from Manchester College with a BA in 1922 (her name is misspelled as Katherine in the Alumni Directory).
