Scope and Content

Carved wooden statue - probably an Indian female religious figure.

Egg tempera and gold icon painted on canvas and including old wood.

Stone bowl - perhaps Etruscan design?

Metal lamp.

Easter Island head - small carving.

Metal elephant - small statue - probably  Indian religious figure.

Buddha - disc.

Probably Chinese - wooden figurines: standing figure - figure on a horse.

Metal Buddha figurine.

Wooden Buddha.

Probably Indian - wooden religious figurine - (over 10 inches high and located on metal shelf in Sanctum).

Wooden candleholder - carved character - probably Chinese.

Bio History Note

Professor Allen Deeter taught Religion and Philosphy at Manchester College beginning in 1959.  He also served as Director of Brethren Colleges Abroad and of the Peace Studies Program, following Robert Schuhle.  During his international travels Allen collected cultural and religious art.  More research is needed to identify these pieces of the collection that were donated to the archives by his wife, Joan Deeter.
