According to the book, "A Century of Faith, Learning and Service," Goldwater's appearance was made to appease townspeople who were irate over the presence of King. This anger partly stemmed from King's opposition to the Vietnam War. Barry Goldwater was in support of the war. | Archivist Note | Description prepared 30 July 2008 by Jeanine M. Wine. |
