This book had a post-it / memo note stuck on the front. It indicated that Pasy La Var used the pen name of Dortoha Mae Crowl, MC 1940.
Actually, I think it vice-versa, and that La Var was the pen name.... because "Dorotha Mae Crowl" was the name of the student who attended Manchester College and La Var was the name printed on the book's cover.
The post-it / memo continues to give the information that Dorotha graduated in 1940 (consistent with Alumni Directory, 2000.... and that she married Truman Yoder ...and that their residence was Fort Wayne. Dorotha died in 1982.
The Alumni Directory, 2000 --- shows that a Truman Yoder graduated from Manchester College in 1940.
The post-it / memo also spells her first name as Dorotha and the spelling of the first name in the preface of the book is Dortha. There is a definite typo in the Preface wtih the word, "nest" instead of what was probably supposed to be the word, "next." A typographical error might have been made in the spelling of Dorotha as well.
There is an inscription inside the book:
Thank you. One of your German Students, Patsy.
Another inscription, D. C. Reber, 1936, is on the inside cover. Perhaps Patsy (Dorotha) presented this book to Professor Reber.
The author was 18 years old at the time of publication.
