The Kintner "Diospyros VIrginiana" marker photo.  Email memo from "Phil Orpurt" to Bill Eberly regarding the history of this plant.

Portion of "Manchester College Bulletin," April 1978, "Campus Trees After 60 Years."

Handwritten note - "Class of 1941 Trees - for Vernon Miller" - the note lists hand-drawn map and location of:

4 Red Oaks.

70 American Arborvitae.

1 London Plane.

1 Red Maple.

1 Blue Spruce.

Professor Wilson Lutz (co-chair of MCCC Tree Walk Committee, donated a "Manchester College Campus Tree Walk" booklet, along with a report by the Manchester College Campus Tree Walk Committee (MCCC), and a poem, "Trees of Manchester," by Professor Charles Klingler.

Bio History Note

The booklet includes a numbered list of trees along with a campus map detailing each number's campus location.

Included in this folder is a picture of the "Pertle Springs Persimmon (Diospyros Virginiana)" marker stating:

"From the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference of 1890, held in Pertle Springs, Missouri, the parent of these two trees was brought by B. F. Kintner to his farm in Defiance County, Ohio.  It is still alive ninety years later near the Lick Creek Church of the Brethren.  In 1937, two offspring trees were planted at Manchester College by Prof. Edward Kintner as a part of a program to increase the variety of trees on campus.  A.D. 1985."
