Folder #2 - Poem and Letters  - Sherrick, M. M. - LOCATED IN FACULTY/STAFF LARGE BOXES, Sanctum.

 

·         The poem, “At The Fountain,” with handwiritng “M.M.S. (M.M. Sherrick) and a newspaper clipping of Dwight D. Eisenhower and Milton Eisenhower (verso) – “Cousins of M M.S.”

 

·         Letter written from Washington D. C., 1 March 1948 to “My Darling Dorothy from “Your Dad et al. “Regards to J? And John.” “We have written the Old Peoples Home at Mexico Ind. And if reply is favorable, Harold and I will probably settle there.”

 

·         Letter written from “Old Orchard” – 19 May 1943 – written to “My Darling Dotsy” – signed “Your Dad” with a P.S. “Harold says tell Dorothy to ‘be sensible in eerythign she does.’ Aunt Sadie and Rosemary send greetings.”

 

·         Letter written from “Old Orchard”– Sunday, 6 June 1943- written to “My Darling Dotsy” – signed “With love ever, Dad, Harold, Sadie and Rosemary.” “Harold is doing well, Aunt Sadie busy and Rosemary getting along on her job.”

 

·         Letter written from “Old Orchard” – 17 June 1943 – written to “My Darling Dotsy” – signed “Love and Kisseth, Your Dad.” A letter telling about Harold, Rosemary, Aunt Sadie and Dotsy’s niece, “June.”

Bio History NoteM. M. Sherrick studied at Mt. Morris College Academy and College, among other institutions.   taught German and Modern Languages at Manchester College 1898-1900.  He also taught Philosophy and Pedagogy from 1904-1906 at Manchester.  It appears he was at Mount Morris College from 1906-1923, and then returned to teach at Manchester College from 1923-1938.  Marvin Manam Sherrick was married to Minnie Mae Buck. He published a book of poetry as well as works on writing and preaching.  Information taken from the Brethren Encyclopedia.
