Scope and Content

A recording of the speech Barry Goldwater made when on campus in 1968, a week following Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s visit to campus.

Bio History NoteAccording to the book, "A Century of Faith, Learning and Service," Goldwater's visit to campus was made to appease townspeople who were unhappy over the presence of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The unrest from local individuals stemmed from King's opposition to the War in Vietnam.  Barry Goldwater was in support of the war and presented another viewpoint.

Digital recording made from 1/4 inch Ampex tape made September 2015 by the Manchester University Instructional Technologies group and located on Archives' Network [W:] in folder titled [Audio and Video Recordings Special Speakers and Interviews]. Ampex tape recycled in September of 2015 due to the fact that it will only disintegrate with time and the best possible capture has already been made.  Note made by Jeanine Wine 28 September 2015.
