Bio History Note

Excerpt from "WBKE Invades MC Airwaves," Demian Poll, Staff Writer. Oak Leaves, 17 September 1999:

"For over thirty years there has been a rock solid institution on the campus of Manchester College.  Could it be the blatant refusal to accept society's injustices?  The lofty aspirations of our free thinking liberal arts faculty?

Good possibilities, but wrong.  It's been the campus radio station.

Since the mid-1960's the radio station has been the pulse of this campus.  Now with the call letters WBKE, 89.5 still operates with the same goals it did over thirty years ago.

"'We want to be a positive force in the college community,' said program director Brian Hartz.' 'We like to think that we offer something for everyone.'"

Archivist Note

These scrapbooks were in an unstable condition and were disassembled by the Archivist due to preservation concerns. The cover of the second scrapbook was removed, as were about 1/2 inch of empty pages.  The photographs and newspaper clippings on the remaining pages should probably be removed as well, but it was felt that the layout and placement of photographs were crucial to the integrity of the object, and so were left intact. When time allows, it would be advisable to scan these pages and then dissamble the pages, housing the photos and other materials elsewhere.
