Bio History NoteL. W. Teeter Collection: Lewis Wallace Teeter, (1845 - 1927).  Denomination: Church of the Brethren.  Mechanic, preacher, Bible expositor, Annual Meeting leader.  Born Oct. 15 near Hagerstown, IN.  Teeter taught himself basic Greek and German to supplement a limited secondary education.  He married Nancy Ellen Bowman in 1866 and the couple joined the Nettle Creek (Hagerstown), IN congregation (1868?).  The Bible was Teeter's main focus for study and teaching throughout life.  He also devoted much time to congregational and denominational matters.  In 1876 he was elected a minister and he was ordained an elder in 1885, having charge of the Nettle Creek congregation for 32 years.

The Annual Meeting asked Teeter to prepare a two-volume commentary on the New Testament (1894) that was to place special emphasis on Brethren beliefs.  This commentary is in the Manchester College Brethren Collection and in the Manchester College Library.

L. W. Teeter served on the Board of Trustees for Manchester College from 1905 to 1925.

At the death of his first wife in 1915, L. W. Teeter married Mrs. Martha Bowman Ulrich.
