| | Date of Accession | 09 November 2011 | | Bio History Note | According to the Habitat for Humanity website, Millard Fuller founded Habitat for Humanity International in 1976. He rose from humble beginnings in Alabama to become a self-made millionaire. As business prospered, Millard's health, integrity and marriage suffered. Soul-searching led to reconcilliation with his wife and a renewal of Christian commitment. The Fullers then took the drastic step of selling all of their possessions, giving the money to the poor. They joined a Christian community, Koinonia Farm, to look for practical ways to apply the teachings of Jesus. With Koinonia founder, Clarence Jordan, and some others, the couple initiated several partnership enterprises. One of these partnerships included a ministry in housing, where modest houses were built on a no-profit, no-interest basis, making houses affordable to low income houses.
