 #1a,b - Boarding Club at the home of Mrs. Emma Timberlin (Fair)

#1a - 1 photograph from 1896. Presented to the collection by Emma's daughter, Mary Timberlin Ohmart.

#1b - 1 photograph from  1897.

·        Location of home - 718 North Wayne Street, North Manchester Indiana.

·         Note: One picture identifies Crouch as being President of the College in 1896/1897.  However, although Crouch was teaching at the institution during these years, he assumed the presidency from 1901-1910. Perhaps the date of the pictures are innacurate or the individual identifying Crouch as president was incorrect?

 #2 - College Woman’s Club-1925 Aurora- One photo from 1925.

·         Photo and information about the club can be found on page 132 of the 1925 Aurora.

#3 - YWCA Officers-1925 - 1 photo from 1925.

·         From left to right back row: Hazel Royer (Chairman Program Committee), Thelma Sausman (Vice President), Esther Bright (Under Graduate Representative), Ada Keller (Chairman Publicity Committee), Mary Gilbert (Treasurer).

·         From left to right front row: Miriam Miller (Secretary), Fern Irvin (President), Professor Sadie Wampler (Faculty Advisor), Ida Shockey (Chairman Religious Committee), Marguerite Zumbrun (Chairman Social Committee).

·         Photo and information about club can be found on page 118 of the 1925 Aurora.

#4a,b,c,d - Adelphian Society - 4 photos from February 1900. #4a identifies individuals. #4c is in fragile condition

#5a,b - Adelphian Sociey - 2 pictures from 1900-1901.  #5a is an original and 5b is a printed copy.

#6a,b - Adelphian Society - 2 photos from 1906-1907 with a note: Another copy can be found on verso of 1906-1907 Basketball photo Lage Box 152 Sports.

#7 - Adelphian Society - 1 photograph as seen in the 1910 Aurora.

#8a,b - Adelphian Society - 2 photographs as seen in the 1912Aurora.                                                                                                   #9a,b,c through #15a,b - The Lincoln Literary Society and Ladies' Chorus

#9 a,b,c - Lincoln Literary Society - 3 images from 1900-1901.

o   On back of one photo it has the year 1920.

o   On the verso of one photograph is another picture, the Ladies' Chorus from 1900-1901. It is the archivist's opinion the Sadie Stutsman (Wampler) is pictured in the center of the group, directly above the male.

#9c-a printed version of the photograph.

 

#10a,b - Lincoln Literary Society - from 1902-1903.

o   #10a - Joseph Cunningham is the male in the center of the first row in these photos.

o   #10b - According to notes on verso, the first person on left in second row is Miriam(?) Anglemyer (b.1887-d.1961) from Nappanee Indiana.

o   #10b - According to notes on verso the person from left in third row in Jesse J. Anglemyer (b. 1875 - d. 1966) from Williamston Ohio.

 

#11 - Photo from 1902-1903 of the Lincoln Contest.

o   Date of this was March 12, 1903.

o   Joseph Cunningham is in the back row, 4th in line from viewer’s left.

 

#12a,b - 1 photograph from 1906-1907.

o   On the verso is a photo of a large group of students. Maybe a class photo. Dated 1908 and taken by Crill (Photographer).

 

#13 - 1 photograph as seen in 1910 Aurora.

#14a,b,c

#14a-1 Lincoln Literary Society, 1912.

o   The name of L.W. Shultz is on the verso.

#14a-2:  Lincoln Literary Society 1912-1913, as in the 1912 Aurora?

Vernon Schwalm as a student in center of back row?  L. W. Shultz is probably in the back row, viewer's left, 2nd man in.  He has a little scowl on his face.

#14c - 1 photo of Lincoln faculty/ on pennant

#15a,b - 2 photographs with no date. 

 

#16 - Group of people standing outside a church. From the Kintner Collection. Perhaps this is the Volunteer Mission Band? or a picture of COB mission church in North Manchester, the West End Chapel?  More research is needed.

 

#17 - Block Print Fabric. Ca. 1935.

 

#18a,b,c,d - The Bible Society

·         4 photos all from February 9, 1900.  #18a is from John Puterbaugh, Ohio. #18a also identifies the following:

o    Simon Burbet, W.W. Barnhart, T.S. Moherman (2nd row, 2nd person), D.O. Cottrell,  J.J. Anglemeyer  (3rd row, 4th from left), Cullen, Mrs. Mary Murry, Otho Winger  (with hand on CS shoulder), C.S. Ikenberry (has Winger’s hand on shoulder), S.P. Early (right second row from top below Eikenberry), J.B. Leatherman (top row, first one on left side), J.B. Speicher (top row, fourth from the left), C.W. Metz (first row, first one from the left, D.F. Eikenberry (right top corner/mustache).

#18d - More identifications are given.

#19a-e -The Ohio Group

·         5 photos from 1899. #19a and #19c are from John Puterbaugh, Ohio.

o   One photo says Bible Society, but it is actually a picture of the Ohio Group.

·         #19f- One photograph from January 1903.

 

#20 - Literary Society Halls set up for meetings

·         #20a Adelphian Hall photograph

o   On back it says “…meeting held November 28, 1896 dissolved into sections A & B. By chance A was given west Hall and society became Lincoln Literary Society. B took East Hall and became Adelphian Literary Society

·         #20b - Lincoln Hall photograph

o   On back it says “Society meeting, first literary prool. Social period, debate or parl. drill no inst. music for some years. Comm. pleaded for 1 hour with President to no avail.

Bio History NoteIt is the archivist's belief that Sadie Stutsman (Wampler) entered Manchester as a student in the Academy before her widowed mother remarried and moved the family to Washington, D.C. This remarriage and move is a story that the archivist has heard and is not able to back up with concrete evidence. J. Wine, December 2013.
