Scope and Content

Ambassador Hartman reports on challenges faced by Gorbachov, such as Christianity in Russia, during an assembly on 20 April 1988.

One wave sound file located on Archives Network [W:] in file titled [Audio and Video Recordings Special Speakers and Interviews]

Date of Accession28 December 2015
Bio History NoteThe tape was not clearly identified, just by {amb Hartman 4-20-88}, and the topic clearly being challenges faced by the country of Russia.  The archivist looked up Ambassador Hartman on the internet and found Arthur Hartman (on Wikipedia) who is identified as being the 17th United States Ambassador to the Soviet Union in office September 28, 1981 - February 20, 1987 under President Ronald Reagan.  It is a definite possibility that this is the Hartman speaking at Manchester College in 1988.
Archivist NoteOriginal cassette tape digitally copied as a wave sound file during 2015 by MU Department of Information Technology Services. Cassette tape discarded by J. Wine in 2015 because the best copy has been made and the tape will only deteriorate with time.  Description prepared 28 December 2015 by Jeanine M. Wine.
