Bio History Note

Betty Pottenger Phelps Refior graduated from Manchester College in 1943.  Her brother, James Pottenger, graduated from Manchester in 1939.  James was deeply involved with the debate team.  This collection primarily consists of letters that he wrote to his family in Warsaw, Indiana, as well as interesting paper artifacts from his time at Manchester College.   One newspaper clipping is about Ora Pottenger, who might be a sister. 

A photograph of James is included with the notation:

James Lee Pottenger, 1917 - 1950.  He died in the Belgian Congo where he was putting up buildings for the Methodist Mission Board.
