The Usumacinta Expedition - Background: According to Professor James R. C. Adams this was the first January Term trip outside the country in the year that January Term was established. Adams did a great deal of research before the trip was made and spent two summers there in preparation. He made detailed notes of the trip and acquired accounts of early explorers who had also gone that route, some with disastrous results.
