Scope and Content

A group of statements about the purpose of Manchester College with a note from Professor Doris B. Garey, English Department, to Professor David Waas, Department of History. 

Professor Garey had the idea that some students might apply these statements to their own experience.  She writes a paragraph about this idea.

Professor Gary writes:

"A view expressed rather often today seeems to have been that statements about objectives are of minimum value because (1) they tend to be vague, and (2) they sound so respectable that most people are likely to accept them passively without being stimulated to explore their implications.....It occurred to me that some students might get further by applying certain of these statements to their own experience....."
