The new Manchester Chime tower, constructed in the fall of 2022 on Manchester University’s North Manchester campus, has been recognized for excellence in construction by the Building Contractors Association of Northeast Indiana.
The award is for buildings constructed for less than $1 million. The funds were raised by donors during Manchester’s Students First! comprehensive campaign, of which a new Chime tower was one of the initiatives.
The Chime tower was constructed by The Verdin Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, which also refurbished and tuned the 10 original bells and added four additional bells. It was dedicated at Homecoming 2022.
“The restoration of the bells and the construction of a new Chime tower in the heart of campus was a special project made possible by many generous donors,” said Melanie Harmon, Vice President for advancement. “The ringing of the Manchester Chime is one of the longest standing traditions at Manchester. It’s great to hear them ringing again and, hopefully, for another 100 years!”
Harmon attended the association awards banquet in Fort Wayne on Thursday, April 20.
The entry was submitted by Michael Kinder & Sons and Design Collaborative.
