Manchester University will host sportswriter and podcast host Dave Zirin for “The Kaepernick Effect: War, Racism, and the 21st Century Sports World.”
The presentation is 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11 in Cordier Auditorium at the North Manchester campus. It is free and open to the public.
Great controversy has been raised recently by the outspokenness of athletes on a host of social issues, especially racism. Zirin will speak to the Manchester community about the politics of the 21st-century athlete and argue that we need to listen to
what they have to say.
He has written eleven books on the politics of sports, including “The Kaepernick Effect,” “The John Carlos Story” and “Jim Brown: Last Man Standing.” He also hosts the podcast “Edge of Sports.”
This program is part of Manchester’s Values, Ideas and the Arts series,
which offers students opportunities for academic enrichment. Zirin’s presentation is sponsored by the Class of 1968 Peace and Social Justice Fund and the Ira W. and Mable Winger Moomaw Fund.
