Memorial service for Katherine Tinsley is June 24
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Katherine Tinsley is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, in the upper level of the Jo Young Switzer Center on the North Manchester campus of Manchester University.
The Fort Wayne resident succumbed Monday to injuries she sustained May 30 in an Indianapolis traffic accident.
Tinsley taught courses in American history for 26 years, retiring this spring with emerita status.
Her husband, economics lecturer Matt Hendryx, also retired from the University this spring. He was not involved in the crash.
Directions
For those who are unfamiliar with the North Manchester campus, the CaringBridge site in her name posted directions:
Your goal is to reach the upstairs of the Jo Switzer Young Center on the east side of the campus of Manchester University. From Indianapolis: Take I-69 to 37. North on 37 until 13. Take 13 north until you reach the first light in North Manchester (Harting Furniture on your right). Go straight, the road will curve right, go over railroad tracks and continue to East Street (about a mile, if you curve left, you've gone too far). Turn right and the first University building on your left is where the service will be held. Allow 2 and half hours from the center of Indianapolis. From Fort Wayne: Take 24 (Jefferson) west until you reach a sign for 114. Your only choice is to turn right. Go west on 114 until you reach North Manchester (about 25 minutes). Go over the bridge and immediately turn right on Wayne (only choice). In ten blocks you will reach the corner of the campus. Turn right onto College and go to the end. Make a left. The third University building on your right (the first that isn't a residence hall) is where the service will be held. Allow one hour from downtown Fort Wayne. From north and west: I'll assume you are heading east on 30. After you pass Warsaw, you'll come to 13. Turn right (south) go through Pierceton and continue on 13 until you reach North Manchester. A motorcycle shop (Heeters) will be on your left. The street to the side of it is East Street. Turn south (left) and the first large campus building on your left is where the service will be held.
