Manchester University International Fair celebrates, savors cultures of the world
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Food, entertainment and cultural experiences from around the world will come together in North Manchester on Sunday, April 15, when Manchester University offers its International Fair.
“This biennial tradition began in 1993 as part of International Education Week and continues today as a celebration of diversity in the Manchester community,” said Michael Dixon, MU director of Intercultural Services and chair of the event.
The fair will take place from noon to 4 p.m. in the Physical Education and Recreation Center on the North Manchester campus. Admittance is free and open to the public. Tickets for food items may be purchased inside the PERC.
The many food offerings take three days to prepare and represent a variety of flavors, including those from France, Haiti and Nigeria. Vegetarian and vegan options will be available.
The lively event also showcases international entertainment, including dancers, bands and activities for children. Salaam Band and Ceili Irish dancers are among those performing.
Up to 1,000 people are expected to attend.
The University has students from 20 nations and is currently building the Jean Childs Young Intercultural Center to become a regional focal point for discussions about diversity and inclusion, civic engagement and civil discourse.
