MU asks community to help crush hunger
Manchester University is asking the neighbors to help in the fight against hunger during the 8th annual U Can Crush Hunger campaign.
MU, Huntington University, Indiana Tech, Indiana University Fort Wayne, Ivy Tech, Manchester University, Purdue Fort Wayne, Trine University and the University of Saint Francis are competing in this friendly food and fund drive competition to make a positive difference.
“Manchester is ready for another round of crushing hunger to bring back the championship,” said Tish Kalita, MU student life collective leader. “This truly is a great opportunity to be competitive, but also to fill pantries, help those in need and engage the community in ending hunger.”
U Can Crush Hunger helps Community Harvest Food Bank provide meals to thousands of northeast Indiana families during the holidays, and it supports food pantries on participating college campuses.
How you can help with this great cause and help Manchester win the trophy:
- Drop off nonperishable items in Room 104 of the Chinworth Center on East Street between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
- Look for bins at Spartan athletic events.
- If you live near the campus, students in My Manchester Experience classes will be going door-to-door Friday, Nov. 4 to pick up bags of nonperishable food from outside homes. They will drop off flyers at homes in the North Manchester collection area beforehand.
- Donate using PayPal or a credit card at https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3H2RHHBKK9GBS. Every dollar donated equals 4 pounds of food in the trophy competition.
Manchester encourages all donations to be in by Nov. 10 because the final weigh-in is Nov. 11.
Great items to donate: pasta, rice, beans, microwavable soup, mac and cheese, Chef Boyardee, tuna, crackers, beverages, canned veggies and fruit, chips, sweets, cookies, mini muffins, cereal bars, oatmeal, granola bars, cereal boxes, toilet
