Jungian expert to speak at Manchester

Jim Hollis is one of the most highly regarded Jungian analysts in the nation. The 1962 Manchester graduate dedicates himself to improving lives through private practice and through the Jung Society.

Hollis will present “It’s the Journey, not the Arrival: A Report from the Distant Shore” at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in Cordier Auditorium on the North Manchester campus of Manchester University. The event is free and open to the public.

He has described Jungian psychology as offering a “deeper look at religion, at popular culture, at the currents of history.” More than symptom reduction, it focuses on a personal journey of discovery and insight.

After Hollis obtained his doctorate at Drew University in 1967, he taught humanities at various colleges and universities for 26 years. He then retrained as a Jungian analyst at the Jung Institute of Zurich, Switzerland. 

Hollis is in private practice in Washington, D.C., as a licensed Jungian. He served as executive director of the Jung Educational Center in Houston, Texas, for many years and now is executive director of the Jung Society of Washington (D.C.). 

Hollis has written 14 books and authored dozens of articles that have been translated into more than 18 languages. He has lectured on four continents.

The presentation is part of the Values, Ideas and the Arts series at the University.
