Manchester University to graduate its first-ever doctoral class

Commencement 2016 marks a milestone in Manchester University history when we confer our first Doctor of Pharmacy degrees. This is a media advisory about what is happening. Friday, May 13

• Pharmacy Program Awards Luncheon and Hooding Ceremony, noon, Mirro Center. (The most dramatic visuals will be hooding members of our first doctoral class. We estimate this will start no sooner than 1:30 p.m., and our best guess is that it will happen about 2 p.m. You can text me that day, and I should have firm idea.) This event at 10622 Parkview Plaza Dr., Fort Wayne, is ticketed and not open to the general public, but you are welcome to cover it.)
• All-University Baccalaureate Service is 6 p.m. at Cordier Auditorium on the North Manchester campus. It is open to the public.

• Hooding for master’s graduates, and graduate and professional commencement (this includes the Pharmacy Program) is 10 a.m. in Cordier. (This event is ticketed, but you are welcome to cover it.)
  Note: Jo Young Switzer, the former president, is among speakers at the morning commencement for graduate students. She was president when she and Dave McFadden applied for and got $35 million in seed money from the Lilly Endowment Inc. to build the Fort Wayne campus, home of the Pharmacy Program. Dave was dean of that program and MU executive vice president before she retired and he was selected as president.
• Commencement for undergraduates is 2:30 p.m. in the Physical Education and Recreation Center (PERC), on the North Manchester campus. (This event is ticketed, but you are welcome to cover it. The place will be crammed with people. If I were covering it, I’d go for the hugging and tears  afterward at the athletic fields.)

On May 17, Manchester will begin classes for the nation’s first and only master’s degree in pharmacogenomics. The one-year intensive program is offered at our Fort Wayne campus, 10627 Diebold Road. If you are interested in that, please let me know.
