Digital Spartan Stream to debut with live wrestling dual 

Manchester University said a fond farewell to WBKE-FM – the North Manchester campus radio station – over the summer. This fall, students are working on the new, digital Spartan Stream.

It makes its public debut with live streaming of the Wabash wrestling dual on Friday, Nov. 11. Tune in at 6:50 p.m. for live action.

Initially, there will be live, streaming content of major campus events. There are also plans for podcasting, where archived audio and video can be accessed at the user's convenience.

“We hope to recapture the spirit of community involvement and student participation that WBKE had back in the day. In order to do that, we needed to involve students with media they use, in this case digital audio and video,” said Judd Case, associate professor and chair of the Department of Communication Studies.

He is overall director of the venture while MU Sports Information Director Mark Adkins assists in day-to-day operations. Adkins will also work closely with Spartan Stream’s sportscasting arm.

Student staff include Carissa Arnett, Blake Moore, Kody Smith and Wayne Smith, and more are expected. Students will have the opportunity to create content, both through live broadcasting and podcasting.

Students will also handle coverage of MU sports and other campus events, just as they did for WBKE. Behind the scenes, students will work on promotions and community outreach.

The production facilities are in the lower level of the Administration Building, not far from the Oak Leaves and Aurora offices.

Manchester University, in conjunction with the Allen County Memorial Coliseum and Visit Fort Wayne groups, has been awarded a bid to host the 2017 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Wrestling Championships.
