Fort Wayne photo exhibit offers granddaughter’s stories of Alzheimer’s

The artist’s reception for Cara Lee Wade’s Legacy: Alzheimer’s Stories is 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 7, at the Fort Wayne campus of Manchester University, 10627 Diebold Road.

Her photographic works are on exhibit in Gallery 101 through June 30. The gallery is open 8-5 p.m. weekdays when classes are in session. Admission is free.

 “My Grandmothers (Gram and Granny) were both diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1999 within months of one another. They lost the ultimate battle in 2004, again within months of one another,” Wade wrote in the text panel describing the exhibition.

“As a result, I have become obsessed with absorbing my Grandmothers’ and consequently my own past. As they struggled to retain their identity and their memories, I am now determined to gather them and add them to my own. The result is this imagery.”

Wade is an associate professor of studio art and photography, and graduate studies program director at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne.
