Experiential learning

What Can You Do With Your Master of Athletic Training?

As interest in physical fitness and sports competition continues to increase, so does demand for athletic trainers. When injuries occur, they must be evaluated in real time. As an athletic trainer, you are often the first health care professional to assess and treat an injury and provide immediate care.

Athletic trainers work in secondary schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, clinics and fitness and recreation centers. You can also secure jobs across industries and with professional sports teams.

Career outlook for MAT graduates

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts a 14 percent growth rate for athletic trainers through 2031 — a rate much faster than average. The BLS also reports a master’s degree in athletic training is required for this type of position. Our graduates are a testament to the reputation of our program. Many find rewarding careers with high schools in Northeast Indiana and Arizona, and some go on to work with athletes in a professional sports setting.

Over the last decade, graduates of our athletic training degree program have passed Board of Certification (BOC) exams at an average of 91 percent.

Admissions Requirements for the MAT program

You must meet the following minimum requirements for admission into MU’s Master of Athletic Training program:

  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • 3.0 cumulative undergraduate grade point average
  • Two letters of recommendation through the Athletic Training Centralized Application System (ATCAS)

Application Process for the athletic training master’s program

You can apply to Manchester University — and the MAT program — on a rolling basis. Since MU is a member of the ATCAS, you can upload all your information once and it is shared with all the programs to which you are applying. There is an initial fee to use ATCAS, plus a per application fee.
