Pharmacogenomics is a new field that promises rapid growth. Genetic counseling of all kinds is already growing quickly, with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicting the field will grow by 16 percent by 2031 – three times faster than average.

Explore Classes for the Pharmacogenomics Graduate Certificate

This 12-credit certificate gives you a strong foundation in all pharmacogenomics principles.

The curriculum starts with three required courses, totaling eight credits, that introduce you to PGx and how to apply it.

You’ll then take a minimum of four credits in electives to study the specific ways you can apply PGx in your career. Continue advancing your expertise in applied PGx or expand your knowledge base with electives like pharmacokinetics or bioinformatics.

Admissions Requirements

General requirements to be considered for the online Pharmacogenomics Program include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a science or science-related field; a master’s degree in a science or science-related field; or a relevant professional degree (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, etc.). This degree must be equivalent to one conferred by a U.S. accredited institution.
  • A preferred minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.
  • A preferred minimum science GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.

Application Process

Applications for the graduate certificate in pharmacogenomics are accepted from August 18 to July 15 every year.

On August 18, the application becomes available on the Pharmacy Graduate Application Service (PharmGRAD). The application deadline for a spring semester start date is December 15. While the graduate application deadline for a fall semester start date is typically July 1, it is extended to July 15 for online students.

Application materials should be submitted through PharmGRAD. A complete application includes a personal statement, a resume/CV and a report of all institution(s) previously attended. Please request transcripts from all previous institutions be sent directly to PharmGRAD.

Applicants who studied outside the U.S. will be required to order a course-by-course foreign credit evaluation report from World Education Services (WES). This should also be sent directly to PharmGRAD.
