Some people step back in the face of challenge.

Manchester people step up.

The COVID-19 pandemic derailed the University’s original plans for Giving Day on April 22. However, with support for Manchester students more important than ever, an online-only version of Giving Day is set for June 3.

Donors are up to the challenge, said Kylee Rosenbaum ’11 Moss, director of alumni relations.

“Community is the essence of Manchester. We pull together for the common good, especially in times of challenge,” she said. “With so much uncertainty right now, our students need our support. They need to know that the whole Manchester community has their backs.”

This year’s Giving Day is focusing on The Manchester Fund – the financial lifeblood of the University, its go-to source for many unforeseen expenses, and a vital source of support for students.

“Unrestricted gifts to The Manchester Fund help us address needs right now,” added Janeen Kooi, director of The Manchester Fund and donor relations.

On June 3, alumni and friends scattered across the globe are encouraged to share Manchester memories, connect with college friends on platforms such as Facebook, and make online gifts.

“We will miss having our usual physical celebration of philanthropy,” said Melanie Harmon, vice president for advancement. “Last year, Giving Day included a parking lot party, flash mob and dancing on the North Manchester campus. It’s a fun way to involve students and it helps educate them about the importance of generous donors who help keep their education affordable.”

Giving Day 2019 raised $93,525, nearly doubling the 2018 total, but Harmon says Manchester is grateful for every gift, every year.

“President McFadden likes to say that the world needs more Manchester graduates,” added Harmon. “That’s never been truer than right now.”
