Alumni Days stir memories

It’s been 50 years, but Oren Skinner ’68 still remembers the hootenannies.

No, not the 1960s television show “Hootenanny!”, although it was the inspiration. Manchester’s “hootenannies” were singalongs on the Mall that were one of first-year students’ initial exposures to their new school, and they served as an ice-breaker for those new to campus. Read more.

MU breaks ground for Intercultural
Center

On the chilly afternoon of Feb. 1, Manchester University broke ground for the new Jean Childs Young Intercultural Center. The new Intercultural Center will feature a domed multipurpose space named the Toyota Round, in recognition of Toyota’s $250,000 donation to the project. Manchester, a leader in equipping graduates to value, respect and learn about and from their differences, will use the space as a gathering place for students and area community and business leaders. The center is named for the late Jean Childs ’54 Young, who had a distinguished career as an educator and staunch advocate for education, child welfare and civil rights. She was the wife of Andrew Young, former U.S. ambassador, mayor of Atlanta and pillar of the civil rights movement.

He has worked in the Office of Financial Services since 2004. His office will be located in the Administration Building in the Advancement Office on the North Manchester campus.
