Paid Time Off Policy

Paid time off (PTO) is awarded on January 1. Employees hired mid-year will receive a pro-rated amount as determined by their hire dates.

Nine- and 10-month faculty members receive paid time off automatically during periods when classes are not in session. Faculty will be expected to use PTO for their own or a dependent’s illness, doctor appointments or other “sick” related events.

Paid Holidays

Manchester University provides regular full-time employees 9 paid holidays annually. Additionally, each full-time staff member and 12-month faculty members may earn one floating wellness holiday after participating in pre-approved, wellness-related activities.

Official Manchester University holidays are as follows:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Good Friday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Thanksgiving and the day after
  • Christmas Holiday- Christmas Eve through New Year's Eve
  • Wellness Day (after earning and with supervisor's approval)

Eligibility
Employees are eligible immediately for holiday pay upon hire. Part-time staff who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per year (average 20 hours per week) are eligible for holiday pay on a prorated basis. Floating holidays are also prorated.

 

Retirement Plan

Full-time employees are eligible to participate in the University's retirement program through TIAA following a one-year waiting period. 

  • The University contributes five percent of gross annual earnings; seven percent after employee completes five years of service; no employee match required.
  • Employees choose investment vehicles.
  • University contributions are fully vested immediately.

Supplemental Retirement Account

Employees may establish their own supplemental retirement account (SRA).

  • Voluntary employee contributions may be made on a tax-deferred basis or post-tax in a ROTH account.
  • Employees can begin participation the first of the month following the date of hire.

Tuition Remission

  • Full-time employees, their spouses, and children under age 24 are eligible for full tuition remission at the beginning of the semester following the start of full-time work by the employee, providing other qualifying criteria have been satisfied.
  • Part-time, 12-month employees (scheduled for between 20-30 hours per week), their spouses, and children under age 24 are eligible for one-half tuition remission at the beginning of the semester following the start of part-time work by the employee, providing other qualifying criteria have been satisfied.
  • Employees who are scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for this benefit.

Health Insurance

We want to ensure that you have the ability to enroll and choose a medical plan(s) that best meet the needs of your family. To do this, we will connect you with Remodel Health who will help you.

We provide a monthly wage increase to employees that may be used for the purchase of medical plans. You are encouraged to use the wage increase to purchase medical plans, but you are not required to do so.

Remodel Health is an employer provided service. The Remodel Health platform allows you to choose an individual health plan or program specific to your individual needs.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

Persons enrolled in a high deductible health plan are eligible to open a health savings account (HSA) and will receive semi-annual employer contributions. 

Flexible Spending Accounts (IRS Section 125)

Voluntary flexible spending accounts allow employees to set aside pre-tax income dollars to pay for various medical, dental and dependent care expenses. To participate, new hires MUST enroll within 30 days of employment or at the next open enrollment period (typically November of each year).

Vision Plan

Basic vision coverage is provided to all benefits-eligible employees and their eligible dependents, with the premium covered by MU.

Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment

The University provides basic life and ADD insurance coverage for all employees. 

Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance

Employees may choose to purchase additional group term life insurance coverage for themselves and their dependents, if eligible.

Short-term Disability Coverage (STD)

The University provides STD coverage to all full-time employees, following six months of continuous service.

  • The plan will provide disabled employees 60 percent of their salary up to $5,000 for up to 26 weeks per incident.
  • Benefits begin following the seventh day of disability.

Long-term Disability Insurance (LTD)

The University provides long-term disability insurance benefits to full-time employees under the age of 65.

  • The plan will provide disabled employees 60 percent of their monthly salary not to exceed $10,000 per month.
  • The University pays 100 percent of the premium, however, employees will be taxed on the premium.

Voluntary Group Dental Plan

The University makes available voluntary group dental insurance.

Domestic Partner Benefits

Manchester University provides certain benefits to its employees' domestic partners and their children who meet eligibility criteria. Please consult the Employee Handbook for details.

Employee Assistance Program

All full-time and part-time employees and their immediate family members are eligible to participate in the employee assistance program (EAP) provided through the Bowen Center.

  • Each family member is eligible to receive five prepaid sessions of outpatient counseling per year at one of the 11 Bowen Center locations.
  • The service is completely private and confidential.
  • The University pays 100 percent of the premium.
In addition, all full-time and part-time employees and their immediate family members are eligible to participate in the employee assistance program (EAP) provided through Symetra.
  • Each family is eligible to receive three prepaid sessions of outpatient counseling per year with a Symetra provider.
  • The service is completely private and confidential.
  • The University pays 100 percent of the premium.

PERC Membership

All employees receive a no-charge family membership to the Physical Education and Recreation Center (PERC), which features racquetball, exercise and weight room, arena, etc.

Golf Membership Opportunity

All employees are eligible for a discounted golf membership at the Sycamore Golf Club. Family members may be added for a fee.
