Celebrating Manchester’s heritage, the lives
of Professors Emeriti Niswander and Eberly
Manchester College will never forget two beloved, long-time biology professors who died over the summer. Dr. William R. Eberly ’48 died July 28 at the age of 84.Dr. R. Emerson Niswander died Aug. 10 at the age of 97.
Both highly regarded teachers and scholars remained close to the College community, continuing to share their wisdom and talents as advisors, mentors and historians. Both played key roles in the Center for History in North Manchester.
Their influence as teachers, mentors and scientists is woven forever into the fabric of Manchester College.
“Doc” Niswander, who taught biology at Manchester from 1950 to 1982, was honored by Indiana Family Practice Physicians for the education of medical students. Bill Eberly, who joined the Manchester faculty in 1955, established the Environmental Studies program and authored The Story of the Natural Sciences at Manchester College.
