Multicultural Student Orientation

A supplement to the general Welcome Week (New Student Orientation) program formed to help create fellowship among the students of different racial & ethnic backgrounds adjust to life at Manchester University and North Manchester, Indiana. New students will have the opportunity to interact with each other and acquire knowledge from current students, faculty, staff, and alumni. It will also allow new students to learn about the services, programs and other opportunities available to them.

Student Organizations

There are at least forty (40) student run organizations available at Manchester University. There are six (6) organizations that are associated with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and may be of interest to new students:

Jean Childs Young Intercultural Center

Located at 701 E. College Ave, North Manchester, IN, the Jean Childs Young Intercultural Center serves ALL students of Manchester University by offering a space to study, exchange knowledge, relax and share time with other students of various backgrounds and interests. Its name sake comes from Jean Childs Young '54, first Black May Day queen and civil rights activist.  She was also married to long time civil rights leader Andrew Young, former ambassador to the United Nations and first Black mayor of Atlanta, GA.

It also serves as a meeting place to several student organizations (Asian Awareness Association; African Students Association; Black Student Union; Hispanos Unidos; Manchester University International Association; United Sexualities and Genders).

The Center contains a lounge area with a bumper pool table. There is a large kitchen, cable tv, and three bathroom. There are several offices (Director, Assistant Director, Multicultural Affairs Programmers), and the LCC (Library/Conference/Computer lab), a study room for small groups or individual students to work independently or collaboratively on projects.
