The subject is the funeral/burial procession of General Sun Yat-sen, sometimes referred to as the "father of modern China."  This is thought to be an original first copy.

Crouch who served Manchester College as Professor of Mathematics, Latin, English, Greek, New Testament Greek and also as President (1901 -1910).  Eugene Crouch began teaching at Manchester College in 1895, his career at the institution stretching from 1895-1910. He died on March 18, 1941.

See Also:  President Young's wife wrote a history of the Young Brothers' purchase of Manchester College.  There are imperfections in spelling, but it appears as if Professor Crouch is mentioned in this history and it would be worth a researcher's read.  The history is located in the Young files in the MC General Filing Cabinet under Faculty/Staff: Young.

Recipient of the Sargent Shriver Award by the National Peace Corps Association, and an honorary doctorate from Manchester College, Loren Finnell is a member of the Manchester College Class of 1964.

On 13 May 1969, a mass marriage ceremony and tent-in took place on the Manchester College campus.  The purpose was to initiate a "change in attitude...tak[ing] the form of students assuming freedom and responsibility in determining the direction of their lives."

Francis was the second son of first College President David Howe and David's first wife, Delilah.  Francis (Frank) was an instrumental music teacher at Manchester College 1899-1900.  Frank was also the Inventor/founder of the Howe Vacuum Bait Company.

Professor Howe moved Roanoke Classical Seminary to North Manchester.  He is considered to be the College's first president.

Ray Keim: A historical site recital tour,(A Field Course in History) Sponsored by Manchester College, North Manchester, Indiana, July 4 - August 1, 1933 - This tour started at North Manchester and proceeded down the Wabash and Mississinewa Rivers as far as Lafayette, covering nearly three thousand miles. A map is included with the brochure.

Ferne Baldwin and Paul Shrider conducted extensive research on the life of Manchester College's second president, Charles Kriebel. This collection contains supporting  materials, a genealogical history, and Shrider's concluding article.

Collection of articles, publications, letters, videos, and photographs dealing with Dr. Hamer's time in Nigeria, especially his connection with the discovery of the Lassa Fever Virus.

President Jo describes a mural at Parkview North emergency room in which she was a participating artist. Her work honored the lives of MC alumni, John Hamer and Esther Hamer, who served as medical missionaries in Nigeria.  Dr. Hamer helped discover one of the world's deadliest viruses -- Lassa Fever.

Two other Manchester College alumni were also honored; Dr. Jane Weaver and Daryl Yost.

Elder Robert Henry Miller, minister in the Church of the Brethren had a son, Manchester College Professor Robert Henry Miller, a minister as well.  The accession page gives information about both father and son.  O. W. Neher served as Acting President at Mount Morris College following the presidency of Professor W. W. Peters and prior to that of C. Ernest Davies. His dates at Mount Morris spanned from 1924-1932.   When a fire forced Mount Morris to close its doors and merge with Manchester College, Neher came to Manchester and taught Biology from 1932-1954.

Oscar Warner Neher taught at Mount Morris College from 1924 until it merged with Manchester College in 1932.  He was the only faculty member that transferred to Manchester College, where he taught biology from 1932 until 1954. Following is a list of folders containing lesson plans and papers for Neher's courses.

"Tributes to 'Doc'" was compiled on Dr. Niswander's retirement from the College.  Dr. Niswander was hired by Manchester College in 1950 as the replacement for Dr. Kintner. He spent 30 years as an instructor, retiring in May of 1981.

Pep Band:

The year prior to September 1994, students had organized a volunteer pep Band that played at football and basketball games.  The Pep Band was continued in 1994.  Butterbaugh agreed to raise money to furnish the Band with sport shirts and jackets.  This letter requests that recipients contribute $100 each to defray the cost of shirts and jackets.

Plunkett, Roy: Pivotal scientific publication

Dr. Garner, who had been affiliated with the Environmental Protection Agency, talks about pollution, the auto industry, catalytic converters and their pollutants, consumption, oil shortages, and the idea that "technology can disrupt nature but it can't transcend it." 

President Helman is captured giving an address about Manchester College and higher education in a Christian college. He also touches on environmental concerns.

The Holl-Kintner Hall of Science was constructed during the first phase of the March of Progress fundraising campaign was named in honor of  Professors Holl and Kintner.  These portraits were located in the lobby of Holl-Kintner Hall of Science.

Photographs of Roanoke Classical Seminary in Roanoke, Indiana.  The institution was founded by Professor F. S. Reefy in 1860 and construction began in the spring of 1861.  Many of its students later became prominent individuals.  Roanoke was described as the "Athens of Northern Indiana.  Included in a picture of Otho Winger and D. N. Howe from "The Kintner Collection."

Taken from a fact sheet entitled, Manchester College New Faculty 1986: William Robinson, President, comes from the National College of Education where he was Senior Vice-President for Institutional Advancement.  He holds degrees from the University of Northern Iowa, Wheaton College, and the University of Pittsburgh.  He  has taught courses in his field of organizational communication and research and has held several administrative positions.

Schutz was a professor at Manchester College, as well as a farmer, public speaker, pastor, candidate for Congress (Indiana,1932) and a contendor in the 1936 Governor's race. He was a Kiwanis Club official and Chairman of the Standard Life Insurance Company of Indiana. The collection describes Indiana before and during WWII.  Schutz corresponds with soldiers and provides names of North Manchester men killed in combat. Topics of import include; prohibition, economic recovery from the Great Depression, and Hitler's impact on Europe. Schutz was a contemporary of Andrew Cordier who participated in some of Schutz's political involvements.

Some are related to the Church of the Brethren One letter of interest regards Mr. Max Pinney, Huntington, Indiana, who donated a charcoal drawing of Roanoke Classical Seminary (by the artist, Hansacre, of Chicago) to Manchester College.

Schwalm's materials surrounding President Otho Winger and family, including Otho's funeral service and tribute to Oscar Winger. Letters regarding Schwalm's book on Otho Winger. Assorted correspondence with Dan West, Gladdys Muir and others.

Decades of correspondence between Vernon Schwalm and Andrew Cordier. Cordier gives detailed accounts of behind-the-scenes activity at the United Nations during the Cold War, and the reader can watch the situation in the Congo unfold.  Cordier's role in the Cuban missile Crisis is described to Schwalm as are events on the Columbia University campus during a period of student uprising in the the 1960's. Cordier is always in the thick of things and his descriptions of political figures and events are intriguing.
