Crouch who served Manchester College as Professor of Mathematics, Latin, English, Greek, New Testament Greek and also as President (1901 -1910).  Eugene Crouch began teaching at Manchester College in 1895, his career at the institution stretching from 1895-1910. He died on March 18, 1941.

See Also:  President Young's wife wrote a history of the Young Brothers' purchase of Manchester College.  There are imperfections in spelling, but it appears as if Professor Crouch is mentioned in this history and it would be worth a researcher's read.  The history is located in the Young files in the MC General Filing Cabinet under Faculty/Staff: Young.

Recipient of the Sargent Shriver Award by the National Peace Corps Association, and an honorary doctorate from Manchester College, Loren Finnell is a member of the Manchester College Class of 1964.

He composed a draft of a autobiography entitled, "Still a County Boy.....After having been around the world a couple of times, The memoirs of Loren Finnell." In this manuscript Loren relates his experience at Manchester College, including a clandestine trip to Washington, D.C. for a "Ban the Bomb" demonstration.

Francis was the second son of first College President David Howe and David's first wife, Delilah.  Francis (Frank) was an instrumental music teacher at Manchester College 1899-1900.  Frank was also the Inventor/founder of the Howe Vacuum Bait Company.

Edith Weybright Huber graduated from Manchester College in 1919. This collection includes many identified individuals as well as pictures from Edith Weybright Huber's 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Award in honor of L.D. Ikenberry, former treasurer and former acting president of Manchester College.

Elder Robert Henry Miller, minister in the Church of the Brethren had a son, Manchester College Professor Robert Henry Miller, a minister as well.  The accession page gives information about both father and son. This is the postcard collection of Ida Fields Neff who graduated from Manchester College in 1920.  It reflects student life at Manchester College, Indiana and at Mount Morris College, Illinois. Included is an image of West End Mission, North Manchester.

Ann Blair, Jan Deaton, Dodie Heiny, Ann Lawver, and Linda Zumbrun were the student artists who sang these songs.  This was an independent group of Manchester College students unrelated to the College's music program. 

A history of actress, Michaele Myers, as written by Martha Ann Merkle Myers.  Also included are plays, photographs, newspaper articles, and posters.

The first known radio communication from the Manchester College campus was through an unlicensed amateur [HAM]radio station privately operated by the Singer brothers in 1927.  Their endeavor was entirely different from and unrelated to the first Manchester College radio station [WMIB] built by Dwight Farringer in 1945.  Francis Barr provides objects from the Singer brothers' interest and gives physical information about the construction of WMIB.

Winnie Pearson Wertenberger took commencial coursework as well as shorthand and typing, graduating from this program in 1901.  She continued to live in North Manchester and worked for an insurance office (The College Standard, June 1901, Vol. III, No. 1) and it is noted in the Manchester College Catlogue 1907, with announcements for 1907-1908 that she worked as a bookkeeper (company not noted, perhaps the same one as previously mentioned.).  Her file contains copies from The College Standard and the Manchester College Catalogues that talk about the commercial department at the college and reasons why young women might consider a commercial education.

A packet of materials was dropped at the Front Desk of the Library by an unidentified individual during the month of July 2011.  The contents contained photographs from Manchester College and one paper fan from a local funeral home.  The Archivist believes this assortment was received from former Archivist, Ferne Baldwin. Two of the photographs were of the "Flying Club?" and were accessioned as MC2011/190.  A listing of the remaining objects follows:

1.  One fan from George N. Bender & Son Funderal Directors, North Manchester, Indiana.  The picture on the fan is that of a young mother holding a sleeping baby in her arms and is titled, "Loves Gift Divine." This fan will be filed in the Local History Box of the Archives by its accession number MC2011/192fan.

2.  Eight Photographs:

Two photographs of the gymnasium layout for a program held in June 1967.  At first glance, until looking at the date, it appears as if this could be for baccalaureate and commencement exercises.

Topics of import include; prohibition, economic recovery from the Great Depression, and Hitler's impact on Europe. A vast assortment of correspondence and materials from a variety of sources concerning personal and professionally related topics. Some are related to the Church of the Brethren One letter of interest regards Mr. Max Pinney, Huntington, Indiana, who donated a charcoal drawing of Roanoke Classical Seminary (by the artist, Hansacre, of Chicago) to Manchester College.

Schwalm's materials surrounding President Otho Winger and family, including Otho's funeral service and tribute to Oscar Winger. Letters regarding Schwalm's book on Otho Winger. Assorted correspondence with Dan West, Gladdys Muir and others.

Decades of correspondence between Vernon Schwalm and Andrew Cordier. Cordier gives detailed accounts of behind-the-scenes activity at the United Nations during the Cold War, and the reader can watch the situation in the Congo unfold.  Cordier's role in the Cuban missile Crisis is described to Schwalm as are events on the Columbia University campus during a period of student uprising in the the 1960's. Cordier is always in the thick of things and his descriptions of political figures and events are intriguing.

In 1946 there were many returning students that were veterans or who had been  in Civilian Public Service. Student housing was at a premium.  Some married couples were lucky to get rooms in trailers parked near campus.  Leo and Ginny Morris found an alternative solution, a brand new chicken coop placed in Professor Paul Halladay's back yard!

Sadie Stutsman Wampler graduated from Manchester College in 1916.  This is the same year that she began entries in "The Hand O Graphs" book, and kept make entries for years following. This book comes with the instructions: Place your hand, palm downwards, on the paper and trace outline.  There are a couple examples given, and then the individual is on her own to gather outlines of the hands of friends, family and celebrities on the following pages.  It is like an autograph book for hands.  The name of the individual is also recorded along with the date.

A collection of short faculty speeches on the topic of why they chose to teach at Manchester College.  The presentations are dated from 1993 forwards through 2003.

What appear to be President Otho Winger's files on Alcohol and Tobacco which he labeled "Peade and Temperance."  Some of the materials were addressed to Mrs. Oscar Winger, his brother's wife.

Manchester College and Church of the Brethren related letters, pamphlets, photographs, Sunday school records, newspaper articles, interesting pieces of local and national history, diaries, wedding invitations, datebooks, publication agreements, resumes of applicants from the Albert Teaching Agency and more.

A series of recordings done for Homecoming 1943.  They might have been pre-recorded for broadcast by WOWO Ft. Wayne.  They show the effects that WWII had on Manchester College.

• War has taken 3/4th of our boys.
• Intercollegiate football and basketball are part of war casualities.
• College feels deeply the tragic effects of war.
• 165 freshmen enrolled.
• Enrollment of 270 women and 90 men. This unbalance among men and women makes life interesting (that is, for the men).

Wenger knows three young men interested in attending livestock on boats bound for Europe, 1977.  Rev. Wenger also inquires if Shultz can make a slide presentation about Shultz's recent trips to Poland?
